How to Find Your Perfect Modular Wheelchair Ramp with Our Service: A Step-by-Step Guide
Here at The Ramp People we offer Modular Wheelchair Ramps to provide disabled access into commercial buildings and homes.
This guide is specifically tailored to our Modular Wheelchair Ramp products and services at The Ramp People, designed to make the process from your initial inquiry to the installation of your modular wheelchair ramp as straightforward as possible.

What To Measure
Measure the vertical height you are going up, for example the height from the ground to the door threshold.
Check the useable width of the doorway and whether your door opens inwards or outwards.
If steps are present, please provide the height and depth of each one.
Tips & Recommendations
1. For modular wheelchair ramps, we recommend a 1:12 gradient. For example, a 1-foot rise (load height) requires a 12-foot-long ramp.
2. Where space is limited, the modular ramps can be built to a 1:10 gradient. We are also able to provide the ramps in a smoother gradient when required, for example 1:15.
3.For modular ramps, we recommend installing a platform every 6 metres for stability and as a resting spot for the wheelchair user.
4. For details on measuring, view our How to Measure Your Door Frame page.

Steps involved
You can reach us via email, phone, WhatsApp or through our contact form. We have a dedicated Modular Team to provide tailored support and advice.
Based on the provided information, we'll create a customised quote for you, which we'll go through step-by-step, changes can be made if needed. We can also create technical drawings and a 3D model of your ramp.
Upon your initial inquiry, we'll let you know the information we require to provide a custom quote. We will need details such as the height and width of the area.
If you wish to proceed please let us know and make payment via the details on your quote. The VAT can be removed from the quote for eligible individuals and charities. Once payment is made the order will be placed into production.
We require dimensions and pictures of the area, you may also wish to provide a sketch. This helps us understand the available space and the orientation of the ramp.
Delivery usually takes 2-4 weeks. The ramps are delivered unassembled on pallets to the kerb side and require assembly. Assembly instructions are provided, we recommend for at least 2 people to assemble the ramps.

Deciding Between a Modular Ramp or Portable Access Ramp
- Modular wheelchair ramps are generally selected where you require a ramp which you wish to leave in place for several months or years. They are a popular choice for those seeking to make a home or commercial building accessible for those using wheelchairs, mobility scooters or walkers. Modular ramps are generally more expensive than portable solutions.
- Portable wheelchair ramps are often used on a temporary basis, for example when someone wishes to visit a property or for those who are temporarily using a wheelchair following an operation. They are also often chosen if it is not possible to have a modular ramp, for example on shared driveways or areas with limited space.
- If you are unsure as to whether a modular ramp or temporary solution is more suitable for your requirements please contact our team for advice.
Delivery & Installation
- The modular wheelchair ramps are delivered unassembled to the kerbside by our couriers. We suggest for a confident DIY'er or builder to assemble the ramps. We recommend for at least two people to assembly the ramps.
- Full assembly instructions are provided with the ramps, we do also have a video available.
Claiming VAT Relief
VAT relief is available across all of our mobility aids including the modular wheelchair ramps. In the UK, people with long-term disabilities do not have to pay VAT on mobility aids. Registered charities also do not have to pay VAT on these items. When you add the item to your basket simply complete your VAT exemption details in the VAT relief box to purchase the ramp without the VAT. It is a self-declaration, we simply require the user's full name and disability. You do not need to send over any paperwork as evidence, nor do you need to be registered as disabled or claim benefits.
