Best Forklift Container Ramps for Safe Loading in 2026

Best Forklift Container Ramps for Safe Loading

Forklift loading ramps are an essential piece of equipment to allow businesses to load forklifts over kerbs, overcome differences in floor levels in the warehouse or load and unload goods from ground level shipping containers. Choosing the wrong forklift container ramp can cause instability, damage, or serious safety risks.

When shopping for a forklift ramp it is important to ensure the ramp is suitable for your business needs. It is important to ensure you have a safe loading gradient and a ramp which is able to handle the capacity you wish to load safely.

What is a forklift container ramp?

A forklift container ramp allows forklifts to safely enter and exit shipping containers from ground level. Most standard containers sit around 150mm above the ground, creating a height difference that requires a stable, load-rated ramp.

Forklift ramps can be a pair of ramps or one wide ramp. If your workplace uses forklifts and pallet trucks, a wide ramp may be preferable to allow you to use one ramp to load both items.

When are forklift ramps used?

Forklift loading ramps are essential tools for warehouses, construction sites, and logistics hubs. They provide a seamless transition over steps, kerbs, and container lips, ensuring safe entry for machinery. Beyond standard loading and unloading of goods, these ramps are frequently used to secure forklifts inside containers overnight or to facilitate the transport of plant machinery, vehicles, and cars.

Using container ramps can increase efficiency in the workplace, assist with meeting manual handling requirements and enhance health and safety. Ramps also reduce the risk of damage to the vehicle as it ensures the machinery can safely overcome heights.

What To Check

1.Load height

Measure the vertical height from the ground to where the ramp will rest on the kerb or container.

2. Capacity

Maximum weight you wish to load, including any items the forklift may be carrying.

3.Gradient

Maximum slope the forklift can climb, this should be in the user manual, it is generally at least a 1:3 gradient.

Why does load height matter?

It is important to check the load height so you can identify what ramp length you require.

If the ramp is too steep the forklift will be unable to climb the ramp. It may ground out and damage the ramp or tip, which of course would be a health and safety risk to the driver and those around.

The maximum recommended loading gradient for machinery in line with EU guidelines is 1:3; however, some forklifts require a smoother gradient as they generally have low clearance. We suggest checking your usual manual for the gradient your forklift can climb or contact our team for advice.

What To Consider

1.Portable or Fixed

Most require a portable container ramp to ensure the container doors can be closed when not in use

2. Ramp weight

For portable ramps ensure they can be lifted and moved when needed

3.Ramp surface

Look for ramps with a high traction surface.

Best Lightweight Forklift Ramps

Ideal for those seeking a lightweight container ramp which can be lifted and move into position by one person. Provided as a pair, the aluminium container ramps offer capacities up to 7500kg and can overcome heights up tol 7500kg. Made in Italy, the premium ramps include a 2-year warranty.

These ramps are designed for use at a gradient between 1:3 and 1:4.

As the container ramps are a pair of ramps, they are not suitable for pallet trucks or 3-wheeled forklifts.

Best Heavy-Duty Container Ramp

Offering an impressive 10,000kg capacity, the heavy-duty rubber container ramp is ideal for safely loading forklifts, machinery, cars and pallet trucks in and out of ground level shipping containers. The wide modular ramp is designed to cover the full width of the container but can be created in narrower widths where preferred.

Built to a smooth 1:8 gradient, ideal for forklifts and pallet trucks with low clearance.

Manufactured from rubber, the ramps can be left outside.
