Car Ramps - Buying Guide
Using car ramps is an essential part of loading cars and vehicles into containers and climbing kerbs. In accordance with European guidelines, vehicles should be loaded at no more than 30% gradient. However, if your car has low ground clearance, such as a classic car or sports car, you may need a steeper gradient. Car ramps are crucial tools for car owners and enthusiasts. They provide accessibility, convenience, and safety features for various tasks, including maintenance and repair work, changing tires, cleaning, and even storage and transportation. Investing in car ramps is a wise investment that will contribute to your overall vehicle ownership experience.
What To Check Prior To Purchasing Car Ramps
- Your load height - the vertical height from the ground to where the ramp will rest
- The maximum weight you wish to load - you will need to check the weight of the car, normally we recommend adding around 200kg to this weight to account for any fuel, weight in the car and operator
- Where the ramps are resting on to - we have 4 connection options available, the most popular is the rest on connection
- The cars clearance - for low clearance vehicles you will require longer ramps
Ramp Options
Car ramps are available from The Ramp Factory in lengths from 1.5 - 4m. Our Car Ramps are designed to handle loads up to 600mm high, and their capacities range up to 2900kg. Due to their thin 40mm thickness, these ramps are ideal for low-bearing vehicles such as sports cars or vintage cars. Besides being TUV certified, the ramps can also be customized. Four different connection options are available, but the rest on connection is most popular for flat-beds and tippers. Various alternative connections are available, such as the hook connection that is ideal for loading onto beaver tail trailers.
The Ramp Factory's car ramps are ideal for loading cars into containers, on to vehicles, or up kerbs. They are sold as a pair and are priced accordingly. A low ground clearance car, such as a sports car or classic car, can easily be loaded using one of these ramps.

Kerb Ramps
Kerb ramps are ideal for loading vehicles up to 200mm in height and up to 40,000kg in capacity, depending on the ramp chosen. Tarmac and concrete fixings are provided. A cable can be passed below the ramp via a channel provided beneath the ramp. In addition to singles and pairs, kerb ramp kits are available for 100mm and 200mm heights. Generally, kerb ramps are steeper than aluminium car ramps, so they may not be suitable for vehicles with low ground clearance. A non-slip surface makes the kerb ramps perfect for loading. It is recommended that you measure your kerb height before purchasing.
