Folding wheelchair ramps FAQs
What length ramp do I need?
The Ramp Factory recommends a minimum of 1:6 gradient for manual wheelchairs and 1:8 gradient for electric wheelchairs/scooters. This ensures the ramps are not too steep for use – electric wheelchairs require a longer ramp due to their lower ground clearance. For our semi-permanent ramp systems, a 1:12 gradient is required. We offer a range of folding ramps including our budget wheelchair ramps and premium folding ramps.
Are these ramps suitable for manual and electric wheelchairs/scooters?
All of our ramps except the channel ramps and bridge ramps are suitable for all types of wheelchairs. As long as the correct ramp length is calculated then our other ramps will work with both. If you are unsure, please check the product information or ask one of our customer services team.
What is a portable wheelchair ramp?
This type of wheelchair is made to be easily moveable and portable so therefore only used on a temporary basis. They are often folding or telescopic for easy storage and transport. They are also good to use in a variety of areas as they are not fixed in place.
Are portable ramps safe?
If the ramps are used correctly: within the capacity they are made for, used with wheelchairs and used for the correct load height then they are perfectly safe to use.
How wide are the folding ramps?
Our disabled access ramps are provided in various widths. Our standard folding wheelchair ramp is 720mm wide – the width of each ramp is stated on their product page. Please ensure you check the width of your wheelchair and doorway to ensure the ramps are suitable for your requirements.
Can I rent a wheelchair ramp from The Ramp Factory?
We only sell our ramps. All of our ramps are provided with a 1-year warranty – this can only be provided for new ramps as we can ensure they are provided to you in perfect condition.
How much does it cost to build a wheelchair ramp?

How much does an aluminium ramp cost?

What is a suitcase ramp?
Our suitcase ramps are folding wheelchair ramps that fold up and be carried as though they were a suitcase. This ensures the ramp is easily portable.
