Semi-permanent/Modular ramps FAQs
What is a modular ramp?
Our modular ramps are ramp systems which are provided in various parts that connect to create the desired ramp length. These kits can be provided with or without handrails and be in any length for a variety of heights. The ramps are built to a 1:12 gradient.
Can these ramps be customised?
Yes – these ramps can be provided in any length and various layouts. They can also include platforms if required along with step kits and U-shaped handrails. Please contact our customer services team for assistance.
I require steps and a ramp, is this possible?
We have various step kit available - for further advice please contact our customer services team.
How do you put together the ramp kit?
A confident DIYer or builder will be able to put together the modular kits. We have an instruction video and guide here.
How long does it take to build?
This depends on the abilities of the person who is putting it together and what length ramp was purchased. Please check our guide for a more in depth understanding on how to put the kits together.
What size door can the ramps be used with?
Our kits are provided in various widths from 900mm up to 1500mm. You will need to ensure the wheelchair will fit as well as the door.
What measurements do I need to take to work out what kit I need?
We have a guide that can be found here.
How much do the kits cost?
This depends largely on your requirements; however, our kits start at £1,175 +VAT.
What are they made from?
The ramp kits are made from anodised aluminium or galvanised steel which ensure the ramps do not rust.
Are wheelchair ramps required?
In private homes and properties, it is up to the owner to choose whether they provide wheelchair access or not, however, The Disability Discrimination Act (1195) states businesses must make reasonable adaptions to provide access to disabled users.
Do the ramps have to comply with building regulations (part M and part K)
As The Ramp Factory semi-permanent ramp kits are designed to be temporary, they do not need to comply with building regulations. Please contact our customer services team if you require a ramp that complies with building regulations.
I want a ramp that can be left in place, but I don’t want a modular kit.
We have multiple ramps that can be left in place and are suitable for all weather conditions. Our portable wheelchair ramp with handrails and our adjustable threshold ramps are examples of these.
Can I purchase these ramps VAT exempt?
Yes, all of The Ramp Factory wheelchairs ramps can be purchased VAT exempt for qualifying individuals and charities. They can also be purchased VAT exempt if you are ordering on behalf of a disabled user.
