Channel Ramps FAQs
Are channel ramps suitable for all wheelchairs?
The majority of our range are not – due to the high edges these ramps are not suitable for electric wheelchairs or mobility scooters, they are only suitable for manual wheelchairs. For electric wheelchairs and scooters we would instead recommend viewing our folding wheelchair ramps or these channel ramps which are also suitable for all wheelchair types.
Are the ramps easy to store?
The ramps are telescopic so they can go to a very compact size for easy storage.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of a pair?
One advantage is that the ramps are lighter and easier to move as they are split into a pair, however the downside is that the ramps need to be set at the correct width each time to be in line with the wheelchair wheels.
How easy is it to line up the wheelchair wheels with the ramps?
It may take a few attempts to position the ramps correctly when first used, however, after a few uses it becomes easier to judge where they need to be placed. Some people mark the floor or threshold to show where the ramps need to be placed.
What lengths are available?
They are available from 4ft up to 12ft in various styles.
What variations are available?
Most of our channel ramps are telescopic (with and without black grip surface), however, we also offer rigid and folding options, and extra wide. If you require the ramps to be used at different lengths, our economy telescopic channel ramps and be clipped to match your required length whilst our dual purpose folding channel ramps can be used to go up and over thresholds. We also offer a range of premium channel ramps.
Can the ramps be used between the minimum and maximum lengths?
The Ramp Factory channel ramps can be used at any length between the minimum and maximum as the weight on the ramps causes them to bend slightly which locks them at the required length.
How do the ramps stay in place when in use?
The ramps have a rest on connection which allows them to simply rest on the step/threshold. The weight of the user on the ramps also helps keeps them in place.
What are combination channel ramps?
Our combination channel ramps can be used to go up and over a threshold as they have a hinge. They can also be used as straight ramps to go up a set of steps or load a wheelchair into a vehicle.
Can I purchase these ramps VAT exempt?
Yes, all of The Ramp Factory wheelchairs ramps can be purchased VAT exempt for qualifying individuals and charities. They can also be purchased VAT exempt if you are ordering on behalf of a disabled user. At the checkout stage there is a VAT exemption section – we simply require the name of the user and their disability or the charity name and registered charity number.
What is the difference between the economy and premium channel ramps?
Whilst our economy range include a 1 year warranty, the premium range offer a 3 year warranty. The premium ramps are made in Sweden and are generally slightly wider.
