What is the difference between a transit wheelchair and a self-propelled wheelchair?
Transit wheelchairs are intended for use by individuals who will receive assistance, such as being pushed by a caregiver. These wheelchairs typically have smaller rear wheels. Self-propelled wheelchairs are intended for individuals who will operate the wheelchair independently without assistance.
What should I consider when choosing a wheelchair?
- What seat width do you need? Measure the user's hips to determine this.
- Do you need a folding wheelchair for easy transport and storage?
- Would adjustable armrests enhance comfort and posture?
- Are swing-away leg rests necessary for easier transfers?

Are wheelchairs required to meet any regulations?
Wheelchairs are classified as class 1 medical devices and must comply with the requirements established in the European Directive for medical devices 93/42/EEC. In the UK, all medical devices need to be registered with the Medical & Healthcare products Regulation Agency (MHRA).
Do you offer crash tested wheelchairs?
Crash-tested wheelchairs relates to wheelchairs which have been tested to meet the safety criteria outlined for wheelchairs to be used in vehicles. The Invacare Action 2NG wheelchair has been crash tested to ISO 7176-19 Part 20.
What material are the wheelchairs made from?
Most of our wheelchairs are made from aluminium, with some steel options. Check individual product listings for details.
Do you offer wheelchairs for rent?
No, we only sell wheelchairs.
Are wheelchairs VAT exempt?
Yes, individuals with long-term disabilities and registered UK charities can buy wheelchairs without VAT. Simply fill out the VAT exemption box on our website to remove the VAT from your purchase.
